Environmental Policy

The Company is committed to continuous efforts to improve environmental performance in all areas required by our EPM (which is a part of our SMS) and throughout its operations and towards a cleaner marine environment. Furthermore, the Company is committed:

  • to pollution prevention that emphasizes source reduction, including funding and human resources necessary to effectively maintain and repair the systems, equipment and components found in machinery spaces of vessels;
  • to continuous reduction of environmental risks;
  • to sharing information on environmental performance with external stakeholders.

The Company’s goal is to achieve ZERO incidents and ZERO spills through
continuous improvement.

For achieving this goal, the Company:

  • complies with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and requirements as well as applicable best industry practices and recommendations, and applies responsible standards where laws, regulations and requirements do not exist;
  • responds quickly and effectively to environmental incidents resulting from its operations, in co-operation with industry organizations and authorized government agencies;
  • shows concern and respect for the environment, emphasizes every employee's responsibility in environmental performance and fosters appropriate operating practices and training;
  • undertakes appropriate reviews and evaluations of its operations to measure progress and to foster compliance with this Policy;
  • takes into consideration the results of Industry researches and recommendations to improve understanding of the impact of its business on the environment, to improve methods of environmental protection and to enhance its capability to make operations compatible with the environment;
  • manages its business with the goal of preventing environmental incidents and of controlling emissions and wastes to below harmful levels;
  • is against any incentive or bonus programs based on minimizing operational costs associated with the operation, maintenance and repair of machinery space systems, equipment and components to ensure that employees do not avoid such costs and thereby sacrifice environmental compliance;
  • designs, operates and maintains facilities to this end;

Company Security Policy

Company Security (including Cyber security) Policy

The Company guarantees it's commitment on matters of security and declares that all works conducted by its personnel, either ashore or onboard, will be effectively supervised in order to comply with the aims listed hereunder in order of priority.

It is the policy of the Company to provide a secure working environment by establishing and maintaining the required security measures to prevent unlawful acts (including cyber-attacks), which endanger the safety and security of persons as well as the property ashore and on board the ship and ensure the business continuity.

 Company objectives are to: 

  • Provide security procedures and practices for ship operations to protect the security of ports and the wider
  • Provide information security instructions and practices for the protection of shore and on board installations from attacks, damages or unauthorised
  • Establish safeguards to reduce the risk to crew, supernumeraries/visitors and port personnel
  • Improve the security (including cyber security) skills and awareness of company personnel ashore and
  • Prepare contingency measures for emergencies relating to possible security

In case there is a conflict between commercial interests and the aims of the Security Policy, the Master will give priority to the above mentioned objectives.

These objectives will be achieved by:

  • Comprehensive training for company and ship The personnel undergo training both immediately upon hiring and continuously during their employment.
  • Actively promoting security (including cyber security) awareness amongst company and ship
  • Taking into account the decisions of the international shipping
  • Regular documented reviews and internal audits of security (including cyber security) procedures and plans in order to allow for constant update and improvement to the
  • The voyage, the cargo handling and all ship’s operations are scheduled in advance, in order to foresee possible dangers and take the necessary

All employees and crewmembers are expected to comply with the required Security (including cyber security) procedures as described in the designated plans and manuals and should be familiar with the relevant security duties required of them and the measures required to protect the office and ship from any unlawful act.

The Company declares that  

  • the designated persons for the safeguarding the implementation of this policy [COMPANY SECURITY OFFICER (CSO) and the SHIP SECURITY OFFICER (SSO) for security, Information Security Officer for cyber security have adequate knowledge, and/or have received training, as required by the international regulations and guidelines,
  • that shipboard personnel having specific security duties have sufficient knowledge and ability to perform their assigned duties and that all other shipboard personnel will have sufficient knowledge of, and are familiar with, relevant provisions of the
  • that shore staff and seagoing personnel have sufficient knowledge and have received training on the provisions of cyber security policies

The Company ensures that the CSO, the Master and the SSO as well as the Information Security Officer are given the necessary support to fulfil their duties and responsibilities in accordance with SOLAS, the ISPS code and the procedures and practices related to organisation’s information security.

Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct

The following values and principles have been established and implemented in this respect, shared among all shore based and shipboard employees at all levels:

  1. The Company shore staff and seagoing personnel shall not be involved in any kind of harassment, bulling, abuse or discrimination.
  2. The Company shore staff and seagoing personnel shall not be involved in Cyber Bullying. ‘Cyber bullying is the use of modern communication technologies to harass, embarrass, humiliate, threaten, or intimidate an individual in an attempt to gain power and control over them.
  3. The Company shore staff and seagoing personnel shall not conceal any identified unsafe act or event which affects or could affect human health and safety, the environment and the property.
  4. The Company shore staff and seagoing personnel shall carry out their duties in a professional and impartial manner. All Company employees shall act in honesty, good faith and fairness.
  5. All information regarding Company’s operations, projects, reports or any work carried out shall be treated as business confidential to the extent that such information does not conflict with Company’s policy for safety and environmental excellence and is not already disseminated or made generally available to third parties.
  6. Possession, use and distribution of pornographic material, material which claims to support terrorism or incites religious or any kind of personal discrimination and actions of animal cruelty (eg: cockfighting) are strictly prohibited. Any member of staff (ship or shore based) will also be subject to local law enforcement and legal consequences.
  7. Any kind of offer, gift or bribe in any form direct or indirect, including kickbacks is strongly prohibited in all Company’s operations and processes. Furthermore, the Company prohibits the use of other routes or channels for provision of improper benefits to, or receipt of improper benefits from agents, contractors, suppliers or employees of any such party or government officials.
  8. Procurements are conducted in a fair and transparent manner

Cadet Training Program

Andriaki Shipping Co. Ltd. hires cadets every year in both deck & engine departments. Cadets going through the Andriaki Training Program become ready to assume responsibilities on obtaining their Second Officer / Third Engineer licences. Taking into account that most senior officers have been with Andriaki since they were cadets, career prospects with Andriaki are excellent. Andriaki Shipping Co. Ltd. also offers a modern training room for all personnel, complete with Computers, Internet Access and a projection screen. On certain vessels there is also provided onboard English Training which is available to anyone that requires.

Onboard Living

Andriaki Shipping Co. Ltd. takes pride in having a very high standard of living accommodation on board. All personnel onboard are issued with safety shoes, boiler suits and all other safety protective gear. All vessels are provided with satellite telephones for crew use. Certain vessels are also provided with an extensive DVD movie library.

Our History

  • 1953

    Nicholas J. Goulandris separates business activities from the parent company and establishes N.J. Goulandris Ltd in London.
    Andriaki Shipping Ltd. is established in Piraeus, taking over the management of 4 Liberty ships.
    M.T. Leonidas, the first NB is acquired from Nippon Kokan K.K. Shipyard at Shimizu.

  • 1956

    6 NBs are delivered from Japanese Shipyards.

  • 1957

    5 NBs are delivered.
    Nicholas J. Goulandris passes away.

  • 1958

    4 NBs are delivered, Violando among them; the largest tanker built until then in Japan and was sponsored by the wife of the Emperor’s brother, princess Takamatsu, an outstanding honor.

  • 1960

    N.J.G. Group continues its growth with new acquisitions despite the heavy crisis in the shipping industry.
    The majority of its ships are employed on a long term basis by first class charterers, a policy adopted ever since.

  • 1968

    NICHOLAS J. GOULANDRIS - the first VLCC under the Greek flag and the biggest ship ever delivered up to that time to Greek interests is delivered from the Sakai facility of the Hitachi Group. Neorion Shipyard in Syros Island is acquired.

  • 1970

    NJG Group invests heavily in building bulk carriers in various Japanese shipyards and on acquiring new buildings and second-hand tankers.

  • 1980

    N.J.G. Group continues taking deliveries of new ships despite the long and deep crisis.

  • 1990

    The responsibility of the group passes on to the third generation and the group continues enhancing its fleet with new acquisitions.

  • 2000

    The fourth generation comes into play. A fresh newbuilding program is initiated, aiming at the complete renewal of the fleet with new buildings in Japanese shipyards.

  • 2008

    All group branches are consolidated in Greece.

  • 2013

    Hydroussa Navigation Ltd is established undertaking the management company of the dry bulk fleet.
    Andriaki Shipping Co. Ltd. now manages exclusive the tankers fleet.
    N. J. Goulandris Maritime Inc. becomes the commercial arm of the group handling all chartering, insurance and sales and purchases activities.

  • 2018

    Delivery of four (4) “eco type” NB’s, 74,000 tDWT Crude Oil and Product Tankers are delivered by STX Offshore and Shipbuilding Co. Ltd.
